Brian Crawford, Director of the Marin Community Development Agency, advised the Marin County Board of Supervisors at their June 12, 2018 meeting "that staff is proposing to return to the Board in September with a further discussion related to a Just Cause Ordinance".
Passage of a "Just-Cause Eviction" Ordinance — which would, for example, restrict eviction of a tenant to a limited set of pre-defined causes — was one of two recommendations made by the Community Development Agency.
At the June 12 meeting, the Board of Supervisors provided further direction to Mr. Crawford and staff to expand the scope of the proposed discussion in September to include:
ways to improve the landlord mediation program (enacted in 2017)
efforts to enhance code enforcement
further educating the community on rights and responsibilities, and
reporting on eviction data-collection options for Marin County
The Marin Rental Property Association remains skeptical that a "Just Cause Eviction" ordinance at the County level is a justified response to the housing issues in unincorporated Marin County. MRPA encourages all members and interested parties to attend the September meeting of the Marin Board of Supervisors which will review "Just Cause Eviction".
